15. Additional information: “Mining Glory Temple”

On the eve of the 26th anniversary of coal mine «Western Donbas» the mining glory museum hospitably opened its doors. Not only miners and population of mining community Ternovka but also people of the Western Donbas area knew about that event from mass media. 

On Mr. A. Koval’s initiative, the coal mine Director, the organizing committee on the establishment of the coal mine museum was set up. Great work associated with premises repair efforts and furnishing was performed in 2005. The committee organized the authentic and reliable materials, documents and exhibits search and accumulation. 

When arranging museum exhibits and stands the committee applied pictures and various material submitted by R.Bulatov, V.Volchenko, G.Baronenko, V.Kurinny, V.Nagornyak, V.Kozhukh, P.Marosin, PRUP and NPG Unions as well as materials from private personal archives of miners and veterans of labor and the second world war. Those materials were transferred without compensation. 

The Culture and Tourism Board of Dnepropetrovsk Region Administration awarded the title of “People’s Museum” on 13 December 2007.


 

On 1 January 2013, on Mr. V. Snigur’s initiative, the Mining management “Ternovskoye” Director, the working group on the museum renovation was set up. A large-scale renovation was performed in the museum of mining glory as follows: total area increased in twice (from 80 m2 to 160 m2), the conference room was decorated and a storage room for museum funds (more than 1500 exhibits) was allocated. The age of some exhibits exceeds 35 years period including exclusive exhibits. Where you could see the botanolite trunk which could be about 250 mln years, or charred relict plants found straight in the mine excavations. Gasoline-lamp of 1840th is the priceless exhibit. Mr. Kondrat Pochenkov, the first Coal Mining Industry of Ukraine, went down to the mine. You can see here the first hard hat, a piece of coal produced during the mine construction in 1979, and the album of famous foreman Mr. Vasiliy Bubnov, Mine-Construction Administration No.3.


      

The entire history of coal mining period before Peter I through the present can be seen at more than thirty stands. The museum is the original education school for rising generation and mining successors. 

The museum makes excursions, holds meetings with miner-newcomers, students coming to the work practice, school and mining lyceum pupils with the purpose of popularization of mining occupation.

 

Currently the museum of “Western Donbas” mine is making attempts to renew the days of old glory of mining occupation among the young people since this profession has lost the prestige and popularity lately. 

Not only young people but also the mines veterans visit the museum. They remember their youth, tell young people about their achievements, and they believe that mining occupation will never lose its prestige and be up-to the mark.


 

The museum celebrates the participants of the second world war, veterans of foreign wars, miners of Chernobyl’, skilled craftsmen, children of the war, veterans of labor. The representatives of different public organizations, scientists and specialists from coal fields of Germany, England, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia and other independent countries came to the museum. 

Social Council of the museum led by Mr. Vasiliy Snigur, the Mining management “Ternovskoye” Director, is the main coordinating authority for the mining glory temple life activity. The Council used to develop long-term and current schedules and monthly reports. The museum has held regular theoretical and practical conferences, seminars and lectures with the participation of the mine engineers and “DTEK PavlogradCoal Ltd.” leading specialists.
